Similarly to phenibut, fluorophenibut and pregabalin, baclofen has been found to be an agonist of the GABA_B receptor. It is used to treat muscle spasticity and muscle spasms. It has been used to treat symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and prevent relapse in alcoholics. It has even been studied and shown success in easing the symptoms of opioid withdrawal.

Baclofen is not, at sensible doses, thought to cause recreational and rewarding effects. Anecdotally, and following logically from its mechanism of action, baclofen is very useful (possibly the most effective) replacement for tapering off from phenibut! It minimizes physical withdrawal symptoms without providing a reinforcing psychological effect like phenibut.
